Wow, what a year it’s been. From highs to lows and back again - and I’m not just talking about the fortunes of Scottish sports teams either.
I’m happy to report that as it stands on Sunday 18th November, I only have 87 mountains to climb to complete the challenge. I’m getting there. However at this stage in the year I’m afraid it looks unlikely that I’ll be able to complete all of them before the 31st December- the time limit I set myself. Injury meant that the whole of my half term hols was effectively useless. You’ll be pleased to hear that I’m almost back to fitness and have started walking again.
On a sadder note, many of you are aware that the reason for my undertaking this challenge was because a very dear friend of mine was ill with cancer and had found Maggies Centres to be a great support to her and her family. Unfortunately on the 1st October, Jill passed away peacefully in Ninewells Hospital. She was an inspiration to me in the way she handled her cancer and while this is gutting news, it has strengthened my resolve to complete all 284 Mountain climbs in as quick a time as I possibly can. The rest of this challenge is dedicated to the memory of Jill. |

So, I’m entering the final phase of this challenge now and thoughts of completion and how much I’ve raised so far (£2056.01) make me very grateful to all of you who’ve donated hard earned cash as well as time and company on the hills with me. I couldn’t have done it without your support.
I’m also aware that I need to milk this last leg as much as possible to raise as much money as I can, so pleeeeeease if you haven’t yet sponsored me or can think of an untapped group/ company/ rich relatives/ other way to suck money into the coffers, then get in touch. I'm trying to get finished as soon as possible - the sooner the better!
This is a once in a lifetime challenge for me (I’m not doing this again I can tell you!!) so I beg you to help make the biggest possible difference to the lives of those living with cancer.
Thank you,
Doug
