Date: 31st May
Buddies: solo
Meaning: Big ridge
Height:
986 metres
Time: 8 hrs |

Bidein a' Choire Sheasgaich & Lurg Mhor solo on a beautifully sunny clear warm stunning day in May. Ah if only all walking could be as uncomplicated as this! Long walk and very interesting scramble up to the first munro with stunning views from the both summits. Not an ideal return- traversing slopes for several km, but none the less a good days walking to be had. Note to self; next time, take the tent and camp by the Allt a'Chonais

Buddies: Ali
Meaning: Pinnacle of the green hollow (The forge)
Height:
1062 metres
Time: 7 hrs |

Climbed An Teallach with the beautiful Ali on an equally beautiful day. WOW what a hill! I 'aint seen drops like that before. After having a wee go at the scrambling we both decidede that caution was the better part of valour and high tailed it round rather than over the spikiest bits, though we scrambled up to the ridge for Lord Berkleys seat which was pretty impressive. Brilliant views, excellent scrambling, mega exposure, delightful company and something left for the future.. What more could you want?

Sgurr Ban, Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair & Beinn Tarsuinn. Climbed with Ali on a fantastic walking day in May. Quite a long walk in (felt much longer on the way out!) but the hills had nice interesting features to them- the quartz slabs of Sgurr Ban to the panoramic views from Beinn Tarsuinn. Yomped back through a boulder strewn corrie to regain the path and long walk out. Still, there's always Ullapool for chips eh Ali...?

Height:

Time: 5.75 hrs |

Ruadh-stac Mor & Spidean Coire nan Clach climbed with Ali on a near perfect day for hillwalking- at long last! Completely knackered from previous days walking, but won over by a super day. Spectacular scenery, lovely interesting features (one of the finest corries in Scotland don'cha know) snaking ridges, fun scrambles, brill scree run and great company. Just simply a fantastic day out. This mountain (Beinn Eighe) comes highly recommended.

A' Maighdean & Ruadh Stac Mor climbed solo, though Ali walked most of the way in with me. Wow, was I knackered! The huge distances involved made these particularly tough, even though the climbing was relatively easy. I know I shouldn't moan as well, but the strong sunshine and heat meant that I drank over 5 litres of water and was still dehydrated that evening! Sore feet, shins, calfs, buttocks (hold that thought a while...) remind me, why am I doing this? Oh yes to raise money for Maggies Centres and you'll be pleased to know that today I passed my £5,000 target (nice one Iz). Only 40 to go. Bring 'em on!

Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan & Mullach na Dheiragain (and back up Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan again!) solo. Got some kip in the bivvy- probably the worst spot in the area, but hey ho. Rain started about 3:30 so at about 4:30am I decided I might as well be cold and wet while walking than just lying still and set off at 5am to climb my last 2 of the weekend. both proved easier than I'd built up in my head and went well. Got off the hills at 10:30am at Altbettie? Youth Hostel. but the 12km walk out to the car was a real bugger! Having not done similar walks for some time I was in bits by the end, but glad to get 8 out of the way. Only 46 to go. BRING IT ON!!!

Climbed Toll Creagach, Tom a' Choinich, Carn Eighe, Beinn Fhionnlaidh [Glen Affric], Mam Sodhail & An Socach [Glen Affric] solo and bivvied on the ridge after An Socach for an early start the next day. this was my first BIG day for a good while and i felt it! Knackered I was. beautiful day of mixed weather- always quite warm and little wind (my jacket was on/off/on/off all day) got through about 6 litres of water before settling down to a night alone on the hills. It's more fun bivvying with other folks.

Date: 4th May
Buddies: Emma, Grogz and Ned
Meaning: Rocky peak of the shellfish
Height:
1027 metres
Time: 6.0 hrs |

Climbed with Emma, Grogz and Ned after a restful nights camping below the dam at Loch Quoich. Morning weather was much better than expected- dry and warm, though as we got higher it turned pretty wet and route finding became difficult in thick cloud. Still we managed to get up and back safely (anti-clockwise) and down for beer and whisky at Hoody and Sarah's house. Result!

Buddies: Grogz and Emma
Meaning: Noisy hill
Height:

Time: 5.75 hrs |

Climbed with Grogz and Emma while Ned slept in the very nice tent! The initial slog over boggy uninteresting ground gave way to a rather nice steep final ascent with a little scrambling here and there. Our efforts were made to look futile3 however by a bloke of at least 60 running (yes running!) past us up the hill. He was a nice fella who told me that it was a stupid pasttime. but he loved doing it! the descent again was dull until Grogz managed to sink to his waist in a puddle. How we laughed! thank you for the memories Grogz!
