Sgurr na Banachdich |

|
 |
|
Date: 29th June
Buddies: Graham (Guide from 'Skye Hi')
Meaning: Rocky peak of the milkmaid
Height:
965 metres
Time: 6 hrs |
|
Sgurr Dearg & Sgurr na Banachnich. Climbed with Graham (Guide from 'Skye Hi') on a wild day of wind and rain. the ascent up to the In Pin was straightforward enough and Graham's dog, Kibby, kept us on the right track. As soon as we started the climb of the in pin the weather deteriorated, dramatically! Wind gusted across the knife edge ridge and rain got heavier and heavier until at the summit it was lashing down. Graham did all the hard work and got me off though he suffered the worst of the weather as he sorted our abseil in an exposed position. "That's the worst conditions I've ever been in, on the In Pin" said Graham later. After the drama here, the second summit was a doddle! My heartfelt thanks to Graham for getting me up and down in one piece in those conditions- the rest of this Munro bagging malarky should be straightforward now. If you ever need a guide, try Graham at Skye Hi.

Sgurr a' Mhadaidh |
| |
|
 |
|
Date: 22nd June
Buddies: Jamie
Meaning: Rocky peak of the fox
Height:
918 metres
Time: 4.5 hrs |
|
Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh & Sgurr a' Mhadaidh. Climbed with Jamie on a grotty day (especially after such a great day on Sat) Heavy showers, scree, gusty winds, wet slabs, narrow ridges and again large drops added spice to the trip and turned a slog into yet another brilliant day in the mountains. I just love these hills and I want more!!! The Inn Pin is the last stumbling block in the challenge (really) so if I get that done next weekend, that'll be great. Only 18 to go now. Woohoo!

Sgurr nan Eag, Sgurr Dubh Mor, Sgurr Alasdair & Sgurr Mhic Choinnich. Climbed with Jamie on a stunning summers day with 360 degree views. Amazing! Stunning views, fantastic scrambling, big old drops and a lot of fun. Definately a step up from other munro routes I've done, but absolutely brilliant. I think I'll find it hard to tire of these hills. Looking forward to next week and an attempt at the Inn Pin. Only 20 to go now... bring it on!!!

| |
|
 |
|
Date: 14th June
Buddies: Ned
Meaning: Rocky peak of the knife
Height:
946 metres
Time: 7 hrs |
|
Climbed The Saddle & Sgurr na Sgine with Ned on a good day (with occasional showers) Great ridge which allowed us to do as much or as little scrambling as we wanted. Route finding was never really a problem- you just stick to the top of the ridge! Great views out of the cloud and generally a good day. One to take time over and savour- looking forward to going back with Ali- she's a much better snog!

Date: 7th June
Buddies: Iz and Al partway
Meaning: Hill of the mouth
Height:
1019 metres
Time: 9.5 hrs |

Ben Alder and Beinn Bheoil. Walked in to bothy with Iz and Ali before 'bagging' these two. Had a great walk in- good to take time and enjoy great company, plus the weather was darn fine too. Found the yomp up these from the bothy took longer than expected, but once I'd got to the summit of Ben Alder, all was a-ok. Once again, lovely views from tops. What's happened to this highland weather? I like it!!!

Height:

Time: 8.5 hrs |

Maoile Lunndaidh, Sgurr a' Chaorachain & Sgurr Choinnich solo on yet another great day. Beautifully clear (though a little cooler than yesterday- no bad thing) until the summit of Maoile Lunndaidh where I was covered in a mental cloud being swept over the hill from Loch Monar side and into the corrie by the wind. As soon as I was off that hill I had clear skies virtually the whole day. Long walk and not the best choice of routes up the first hill (route 1!) but good to get all 3 in a one-er. Met a nice bloke called John (stayed a Gerry's Hostel) on the summit of Sgurr a' Chaorachain who took my summit snap. Cheers, John. Only 32 to go now!
