  Sgorr Ruadh
    Sgorr Ruadh

Date: 30th June

Buddies: Ali & Grogz

Meaning: Red rocky peak

Height: 962 metres

Time: 8 hrs

Beinn Liath Mhor & Sgorr Ruadh with Ali and Grogz. Popped this munro yomp into our Applecross trip. Brilliant weather to begin with- then the rain came! Amazing views of Liathach (a scary proposition) and up to An Teallach, out to Skye, south to rain! Great walking experience which is different to other areas in Scotland. The Torridans ROCK!

Date: 23rd June

Buddies: Ali

Meaning: Conical peak

Height: 1165 metres

Time: 4.5 hrs

Ben More (Crianlarich) and Stob Binnein. Climbed with Ali on a generally grey day (as most of the walks have been recently. However the company made it far more pleasurable. Slogged up Ben More and reached the top before we'd predicted. Managed to mark my 100th Munro by sighting some blokes hairy backside as we approached the summit! I managed to save Alison from polluting her eyes with such a vision and hence the summit pic is a distant one! Stob Binnein provided more grey and a thunderstorm on the summit as we ate our lunch. Needless to say we decided enough was enough and legged it! Only 183 to go...

Buddies: -

Meaning: Summit of the heathery corrie

Height: 1102 metres

Time: 4 hrs

A' Chralaig & Mullach Fraoch-choire. Climbed on my own. Real nasty start to this walk with an immediate 500m height gain which seems to just go straight up- good for the buttocks they tell me. After that it eases off but once again I was totally in cloud from about 700m onwards. Felt a little lonely up there at times, but this disappeared when I stumbled upon the rather interesting section before Mullach Fraoch-choire. I imagine the views are once again brilliant, but I can't vouch for that. Maybe next week I'll have more luck with the weather.

Date: 16th June

Buddies: -

Meaning: Crag of the stags

Height: 918 metres

Time: 8 hrs

Creag a' Mhaim, Druim Shionnach, Aonach Air Chrith, Maol Chinn-dearg, Sgurr an Doire Leathain, Sgurr an Lochain, Creag nan Damh. Climbed solo, though met a couple of very friendly 'baggers' up top. Nowhere near as hard as I'd expected, and some interesting and easy scrambly type sections. Couldn't see a thing (which kept me focussed!) but I'd imagine it would be pretty spectacular on a clear day. First big solo walk and went without a hitch. Bugger of a descent though and I had to rely on the kindness of passing motorist (great lad from Manchester) to run me 14 km back up the valley.

Height: 951 metres

Time: 4 hrs

Climbed with Ali- Gowd bless ah! Bagged this baby en route from the monster Loch Mullardoch walk to an Irish Dancing competition in Galashiels (some pupils in my class are the dancers, not me I hasten to add) Not much to say about this one- you go up (into cloud) and you come down. Still it was good to get the legs moving again.

An Socach, An Riabhachan, Sgurr na Lapaich & Carn nan Gobhar. Climbed with Ali. Massive day when we should've left earlier, we should've got the boat down the loch and we should've taken more water! Apart from that it was ace. Huge walk in and probably one of the hardest walks so far. Amazingly hot sunny weather and a beautiful doze on a bridge made this yomp a memorable one.

Ben Macdui, Carn a' Mhaim, Devil's Point, Cairn Toul, Sgor an Lochain Uaine, Braeriach. Huge day after a bivvy at loch Etchachan. Brother Ice kept me going with his dry wit and enthusiasm- "Cairn Toul Curse, got me in it's trance- Everybody dance!" (Private joke...) Managed to have a good sleep in the van later that night after hobbling round the Cairngorm Hotel pub. Bivvy was fantastic though.
