February 2008 - 3 Munros climbed this month

  Meall nan Eun
    Beinn Chabhair

Date: 17th February

Buddies: Ice

Meaning: Hill of the bird

Height: 928 metres

Time: 6 hrs

Stob Coir' an Albannaich & Meall nan Eun. Climbed with Brother Ice on a reasonable day- quite still and the cloud would part for spells around 900m. Concerned about steep descent (after last walk!) and late start, but it turned out to be a piece of cake. Bagged the pair in good time and got off the hill as it got dark. Perfect.

Date: 10th February

Buddies: solo

Meaning: Hill of the hawk

Height: 933 metres

Time: 5 hrs

Climbed solo on a day of low cloud (about 350m) and took the slightly more adventurous route up some snow filled gullies and over slightly icy rock and very steep grass- never would have done it a year ago! Got to summit ok, then had to descend a nice steep bit. Trouble was I couldn't see where the ground finished and air began- very eerie like walking into oblivion (well, sort of!?!) Still, safe down and one less to do. Woohoo!
