April 2008 - 4 Munros climbed this month

  Ben Klibreck (Meall nan Con)

Date: 20th April

Buddies: Ali

Meaning: Meaning unknown (Hill oh the speckled cliff)

Height: 994 metres

Time: 5.0 hrs

Climbed with Ali on a mixed day of snow, cloud and sun. Took a rather ridiculous line up the side- about as 'route 1' as you can get to the main bealach! Some good excuse for ice axes anyhoo! After that the walk was good, the summit clear, though visibility towards the sea was hazy- nicer weather than yesterday though. Took a slightly more gentle route down and got back to the car for lunch. Result.

Buddies: The Lovely Ali

Meaning: Hill of the inlet or bay

Height: 927 metres

Time: 5.0 hrs

Climbed with Ali on a pretty grim day up top- though it was MUCH nicer out of the clouds in the lee of the wind. Quite a nice hill, though it turned into a bit of a slog towards the top when we couldn't see anything! (that whole sky merging with ground thing- first time Ali experienced it- quite freaky) Followed a groups footprints until about 20m below the summit when we overtook them! Sorry! Yomped off after a very short stay up top. That's the top one done now. Bring on the other 57.

Buddies: Doug's Da

Meaning: Rocky peak of Treasure

Height: 994 metres

Time: 7.0 hrs

Climbed with Pa on a dreich day with low cloud and chillsome weather. Pretty steep for the old fella, but he managed it admirably (even if talk of ice axes unnerved him slightly at the start!) steady walk in followed by steep ascent of the hill proper. patchy snow and steep wet ground made the going pretty slippy with Dad and I skidding our way off the mountain like we were walking on ball bearings! still, only 58 to go now and counting...

Date: 1st April

Buddies: solo

Meaning: Scree hill

Height: 974 metres

Time: 4.0 hrs

Climbed solo on a changeable day of better than expected weather. This would be stunning on a clear day with views to Knoydart over Loch Hourn and also over to Skye. Pretty damp and chillsome up top so the belay jacket came in very useful. The hardest part was finding where to start. I just ended up yomping up the side and climbing very steep heather and rocky outcrops for the first 300m. Once the ridge was reached, I found the path and the rest was a doddle (if steep at times)
