Buddies: too many to mention!

Meaning: Beacon hill

Height: 974 metres

Time: 6 hrs

THE LAST ONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Climbed with about 40 friends and family on a beautiful day. Good path and easy pace made a great walk and lots of celebrating followed! Thanks soooo much to all of you who came with me on the day and any other days of my round. Thanks for the support I've had and friendship given. Thanks to Izzie for tireless work on the website- it is fantastic. Finally thanks to Ali for the patience, encouragement, companionship and love you've shared with me along the way. Peace, dug

[Iz - Wow! I've never seen a haggis in the wild...]

Meaning: Slope of the deer forest

Height: 958 metres

Time: hrs

Am Bastier & Bruach na Frithe. Climbed with Hoody, Gazza and Haggis on a beautiful dry day with hardly any wind. These hills are the last ones before the final Ben Lomond walk and seem to me to mark the end of the challenge proper. They proved themselves to be worthy mountains with stunning views, great scrambling and more character than you could shake a stick at! Standing on the summit of Bruach na Frithe with the Cuillin ridge sweeping away in both pinnacled directions like some leviathan from a 4yr olds imagination I felt a sense that though this challenge had effectively ended, the door to the high places of Scotland had been opened to me. I'll be back, for certain. This is the legacy Jill has left me and I am forever grateful.

Buddies: solo

Meaning: Place of sharp rocks

Height: 1006 metres

Time: 7 hrs

Carn an Fhidhlier & An Sgarsoch. Cycled in and climbed solo on again a mixed but warm weather day. More peat hags and long walks with 'big' views of sweeping hillsides. The walk itself seemed to take a while- no ever changing landscapes for me. The cycle out again was a highlight of the walk. I think Ali would like these cycles and there seems to be loads to do in the Braemar area. God bless landrover tracks! Only 3 to go...

Height: 944 metres

Time: 9 hrs

Carn Bhac, Beinn Iutharn Mhor, Carn an Righ, Glas Tulaichean & An Socach. Climbed solo on a warm humid day of light drizzle which turned cold at times in the cloud. Cycled in to Altanour Lodge (ruin) and yomped round these bad boys. Lots of peat hag action which wasn't too bad as it'd been dry for a while previously. Still, a long route made more enjoyable by the fun bike ride out- until I got a puncture!

Buddies: Ali

Meaning: The heathery place

Height: 953 metres

Time: 3.5 hrs

Climbed with Ali on an overcast day with cloud at around 700m. Initial boggy ground concerns were unfounded as it had been dry for some time and the river was also low. initial climb went easily, but became a little trickier as we entered the cloud. Careful nav got us to the summit without too much delay and back off in time for lunch!

Meaning: Old height

Height: 926 metres

Time: 7 hrs

Climbed with Ali from the Ullapool road (the same way as Beinn Dearg) on a lovely sunny day. Good steady incline takes you easily to the plateau below the main Seana Bhraigh massive. Would be tricky to navigate in clagged out conditions. Got back down in plenty of time to enjoy a beautiful evening in Ullapool- now this is what munro bagging should be like!

Date: 3rd July

Buddies: solo

Meaning: Dappled hill

Height: 935 metres

Time: 6.5 hrs

Carn Dearg, Sgor Gaibhre & Beinn na Lap. Climbed solo on a very muggy and mostly dry (if you discount the sweat!?!) day with virtually no wind and lots of midges. Getting the train in here was a great start to the walk- it really gives you a sense of being in the middle of Rannoch Moor which was generally much greener than I expected. I climbed these 3 in a big circuit, the first two going without incident. On Beinn na Lap however the weather decided it would be funny to have a massive thunder storm as I neared the summit. The thunder bounced and cracked off the surrounding mountains and you could almost feel the air vibrate. Needless to say I scarpered pretty fast off the summit down to the safety of the hotel at Corrour for a very nice dinner before getting the sleeper back to Crianlarich and my waiting Mazda.

Buddies: Ali and Ice

Meaning: Rocky peak of the young men

Height: 964 metres

Time: 5 hrs

Climbed with Ali and Brother Ice in better conditions than we expected the night before- mostly dry with cloud about 700m. Walk in was straightforward though we went slightly off piste trying to get to the ridge. However, after a little improvisation up a wet chimney we found the ridge- quite spikey it was too! Great scrambling lead us to a rather airy summit. It was great to see that Ali was LOVING the scrambling- couldn't wipe the smile from her face. Can't wait to climb this in clear conditions- I bet the views would be sensational, and after seeing how much Ali enjoyed it, I'm certain we'll be back for more Cuillin action!
